Some Exciting News!

Its been a while, eh? And a lot has gone on.

Two weeks ago I got some exciting news!!! I am getting a photo published in Our Canada Magazine!!! I was so stoked when I found out! :) The photo is of my little sister so I will remind you all in July to go out and buy an issue so you can check it out! I had actually entered the photo in a contest and while I didn't win they liked the photo and wanted to publish it. Awesome!

More news is that I got my canvases and all printed and done! I haven't seen them yet as they are still hanging out in TO. I ended up getting one more than I planned to because of some mix ups but they gave me a great deal and I am excited to have the extra 16x20 to hang up. :) I will post some photos of what I do with them when they are here and hung up.

Random news...I am using my ipod as my mouse right now because somebody snagged my mouse while I was out working out this evening.....hmmm.....

Yesterday I went for a walk for about an hour taking photos and enjoying the beautiful evening light. It was so beautiful out. I mostly wanted to take photos of the buds on the trees and the other beautiful flowers I enjoy every morning on my walk to work. I almost left it too late for the buds on the trees though. A lot of them were already gone. :(

Here's a few of my favourites. There are more on facebook. I love comments. Let me know what you think!

Enjoy!

Photo shoot: Kya & Keira

Last weekend I had the privilege of joining Kathryn L from Photography by Kat on a photo shoot of two amazing girls! They were a blast to chase around. It was a challenge and a lot of fun to try and keep up with their energy and to capture some of that energy in my photos. While I'm sure most of you have already seen them on Facebook, here are a few of my favourites from the afternoon.

Thanks for checking out my photos! It was a lot of fun to be able to watch how Kathryn L interacted with the kids and really helped to pull their personalities out in each photo. Check out Kathryn L's website. She's awesome! www.photokat.com

Happy Sunday!

Goodbye Rotten Nasty Counter!

Last week our landlord told us we can finally get a new counter. We have been living in this same place for over a year now and have always been disgusted by our kitchen counter. Its rotting, the sticker they put over (probably to hid the rot) is pealing off and the tap was just nasty too.

How gross is this? And believe me its not from a lack of cleaning on my part.

The green actually did kind of match the floor mat that we bought before we lived here. :)

See the peeling off sticker...I sort of wanted to peel it all off...but it was too much work.

We had to pull out all the drawers and all the food from the top shelves under the counter. But it was a good excuse for me to do some organizing!

Are you ready for it? Now that you've seen our old counter, I'm sure you are just as excited as I am to see our new one! :) Its so clean! Its actually sort of textured as well. We got a new faucet but the sink is the same. Anyways. It looks a hundred times better!

Isn't it pretty?

Well, in other news I am job shadowing Kathryn L from http://www.photokat.ca today on a children's photoshoot! I am so excited! But sad that my main camera and lens are still sitting in repair....But at least I have my other camera body and my kit lens. Sometimes I struggle a lot with feeling like new lenses or a more expensive camera will make me a better photographer. I need to learn to live within my means and work on my skill with what I have. New gear will come eventually. I will post some images from the shoot later on.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Project 1: Long-Term Project

For a long-term project I thought plants would be a good option. A few birthday's ago my hubby got me an aerogarden. What a cool gift. I can grown things that are very hard to kill, flourish quickly and can grown any time of the year! We have since grown herbs and lettuce and now we are growing cherry tomatoes. :) I love cherry tomatoes! We planted them the second week in February and look how far they have come in 8 weeks!

This one was taken a few days ago of a new tomato I had spotted!

Look at where it's at today!

I am so impressed at how fast things grow in the aerogarden!
That was only a few days worth of growth!

This is the first tomato that I found!
It was smaller than the tomato in the first picture
.
There isn't a before picture but it is getting quite large now! How exciting!

For the long term project, they gave examples of photographers who documented a town or group of people for decades! That is impressive. However, anything you want to document over time, no matter how mundane or ordinary, will be exciting after a while because photos document change. I can document the growth of my garden. Next month we will be planting a few vegetables and I can include that in the long term project. Therefore I deem my long term project to be my growing plants.

A quote from the book on this project:

So never take the ordinary for granted. Do the opposite - celebrate it, photograph it.

These photos were all taken with my Rebel XT and my kit lens because my new equipment is all in the shop still.

Time to pull out the Rebel XT again! I'm thinking about my first project. I started reading through the book yesturday evening but then i fell asleep and didn't wake up for two hours! I must have been tired! Will try again tonight. i wont read in bed though. That's a surefire way to put me to sleep. :)
